Cake: My day started off with the not so uplifting Cake. Jennifer Aniston plays a woman suffering from chronic pain. She's suffering in more ways than one. You start to want to stretch after watching Jennifer pull off convincing body pain. Adriana Barraza plays her role as housekeeper beautifully. Abrupt ending, which I'm still mulling over. Cake - USA - Dir. Daniel Barnz - Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington - http://www.tiff.net/festivals/thefestival/programmes/specialpresentation... Whiplash: Okay, go see this. Seriously. Doesn't matter if you've ever played an instrument. I loved this movie and I thought J.K. Simmons was exceptional. Miles Teller can play those jazz drums. Wow! Why did I wind up playing the accordion as a kid?! It won't win an Oscar for best picture, but the soundtrack kicks and the cinematography A+. Whiplash - USA - Dir. Damien Chazelle - Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons http://www.tiff.net/festivals/thefestival/programmes/specialpresentation... Still Alice: After the high of seeing Whiplash, I was plunged back into the heart-tugging Still Alice. Julianne Moore plays a 50-year-old woman with early onset of Alzheimer's. I won't give the ending away, but you know what happened you've read the book. Again, a "good" film. Worth seeing. Still Alice - USA Dir. Richard Glatzer, Wash Westmoreland - Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart, Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth http://www.tiff.net/festivals/thefestival/programmes/specialpresentation... Last movie is later on tonight- Good Kill. I'll include that in tomorrow's post.
