They do not care how old you are, the color of your skin or country of your birth. Cannes wants to read good stories in all genres - that's it folks, nothing else matters. I won a First Place laurel from Cannes in 023. The first win put me on a list of capable screenwriters and my name went into a pool of writers selected for a collaboration between Cannes, Tribeca and the DGW (Directors Guild of the World) to find the top 100 writers in the world from a field of over 10,000 entries from 31 countries. I won 1st. Place in the top 100 and a prize of my title listed in the Hollywood Reporter late summer 025 for the largest Cannes event of the year in San Francisco when they will announce the top 3 winners of the 100 finalists. In the meantime I won 2 First Place laurels with Tribeca and Best Screenwriter of the Year Award from an increased field of over 20,000 entries. I am numb with disbelief and don't have a clue what will happen next. Today a notice from SF arrived. I would love to attend but I drive a 20 y/o rusty pick up truck if I sold tomorrow for book value might pay half of an economy flight ticket. Don 't get me wrong, I'm having a hell of a good time and looking forward to the conclusion of this wonderful, confusing adventure. Thank you, Dead Elvis has left the building.
You're welcome, Jamie Sutliff. "The awards arrive by email every day." That's really impressive! Congratulations! Hope you continue having success!
Maurice, are you always up at 3 in the morning? You are one dedicated dude! Thanks man for your nice comments.
Haha Thanks, Jamie Sutliff. I'm not up at 3 in the morning often. If so, I'm probably watching a movie. You're welcome.
Two weeks ago, I received an email from Cannes Film Awards I've won Best Screenwriter 025 after winning 4 First Place laurels each a different project in 4 genres, A short won a Cannes Emmy. I am the first American screenwriter to win a Cannes Emmy and it is for a short micro-budget script. Never underestimate the power of short films.
Shorts are valuable tools for the industry - consider them as the ultimate defined pitch for a writer's credentials and a studio's acceptance of good work.
Thank you, Richard RB
You're welcome, Jamie Sutliff.
@Jamie, congratulations. Great poster, I get a vintage vibe, maybe the black & white effect & old school suits. It looks the kind of thing I’d like to watch & read.
Thanks Debbie.

You're welcome, Jamie Sutliff. You never know. You might get a "Great story - great pitch." And the managers, producers, etc. you pitch to might be impressed that your script won a Cannes Emmy....

I have pitched several scripts with 1st. Place Cannes awards it didn't matter. My first Cannes win in 023 was a $40 entry fee. Even if you don't win at least someone looks at the script.
