The Chicago Cubs are forced to start a journeyman minor league pitcher, Sam Ward, on the last day of the season with the division title at stake. Sam lost his youth, fastball, and marriage in the minors and this is his chance to justify all the sacrifices he has made chasing the elusive major league dream.
