What happens when an actor drops out...

Urgh, I've been really looking forward to putting on a a production this weekend. It's my first show in London, the result of winning a venue competition. Suddenly, one of my actors has to drop out, saying that he wants to focus on upcoming auditions, and that he's concerned the play will impact the...

Hi Ben. First I would like to I'm glad you were able to resolve this issue. From my own experience as an actor/ film maker, dealing with actors can be very difficult. I can usually read if an actor is...

Frank is right. There was a time something like this was rare but not any more. Unprofessionalism seems to rule the day.

Find someone to replace them. Anyone willing to step into this situation will be beyond dedicated and I can almost guarantee they will end up being easier to deal with, far more dedicated, and almost certainly will end up giving a better performance.

You got the idea and the concept... but the play itself is fighting you.... what do you do?

I have play concept in mind, the thought of the play struck from an image and the concept or the question that I want to raise to mind in the play. The idea is there, but I have thirty some pages written and it is fighting me. So do I step back from it or start from scratch or just press on? Your thoughts? Gavion E. Gavion. That happened to me one time and I just stepped away from it for almost a year, writing other projects to supply me with the basics of life. Came back to it and it was like starting over except I already had the idea written. Finished it and optioned it a week later.

It's very common for a writer to get stuck at some point in the process. As you are only 30 pages in, consider that you may need to develop your characters more in your pre-writing. Perhaps you don't...

Page Length

Brand new to the game and I have been studying the craft of the playwright and the screenwriter. Looking for insight. I know each page of the screenplay equals a minute of script. Is that pretty much the same for the stage play? Just want to make sure my newly finished stage play isn't too long.

York Davis

Hi Sidney. Last Sunday I had a reading of my one act play "Dressler Undressed" of 47 pages. No, Marie Dressler did not disrobe, but some of her private life was revealed...lol! The actors' reading came in at approx. 50 minutes if that's any help.

Thanks York. Been a while since I have been on the Stage 32 site. Working on my doctoral degree. Thank you for your comment.

Glen Kinnaird

Yes, a stage play is approximately the same as a film script. 1 page = 60 seconds
