Recently fired and financially desperate, cynical alcoholic journalist Jim Baxter forsakes his scruples and his professional integrity when he decides to take a job at scuzzy tabloid newspaper, The Probe. When he is sent on his first assignment - investigating a mass UFO sighting in the remote, dead-end town of Middlefork - Jim has no idea that he will soon be swept up in a small-town mystery that has him questioning his own rational and moral convictions.
