About Ryan

What did the fish say when it swam into a wall? "dam". Damn you're stuck reading this now. Read on for more literary genius.

Having taken a break from film after winning best director at The Brazil International Film Festival back in 2018, Ryan Neil Butler is back with a vengeance or early retirement, we'll see. He's off to a good start, having won the Sunny Coast Showdown for his script submission Bin Day. Through that competition he was awarded $15k to produce the script. The film has since gone on to win multiple awards including the coveted Fun is Good Bill Murray Comedic Shorts Award at the Twin Cities Film Fest in Minnesota, selected by Bill Murray himself.

He utilises his decade long career as an editor in his directing style. Finding it helps to visualise the edit clearly while on set. Priding himself on being a performance based director, wanting his actors to feel comfortable in their performances.

A lot of Ryan's experiences have come from working on a variety of projects from corporate videos, tv series to a feature length film. Working with actors from popular productions as Home and Away, Danger Close, Boy Swallows Universe and Apples Never Fall.

Ryan is inspired by directors, Edgar Wright and Robert Rodriguez. Wright's attention to detail with sound and editing and Rodriguez's philosophy of low budget film making, are the styles that help guide Ryan with his directing. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Media in 2012, Ryan is still continuing to build his skills and is ever learning to be the best at what he is passionate about, story telling.

And if you're still reading this, I hope you enjoyed this attempt at self promotion.
