"Selena Mars has launched a promising career." Jack Smart, Backstage Magazine 2015
SM is a Musician and Actor. She been seen on screens and stages worldwide, notably sharing a scene with Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe in Abel Ferrara's 4:44 Last Day on Earth.
A gifted topliner with a distinctive voice, SM has collaborated with over a dozen Grammy recognized producers and Multi-Platinum artists including Andreo "Fanatic" Heard (Beyonce/Michael Jackson), Chris Flam (Metallica/Public Enemy) and Talvin Singh (Bjork/Madonna). Her music has appeared on soundtracks for both feature films and commercials. She is also a voice artist and has been featured in advertising campaigns for Almay, and as an announcer on SiriusXM.
Recently, SM had the opportunity to write and record new material with Bob Wootton (Johnny Cash's former Guitarist/Tennessee Three member) at the historic Omni Studio in Nashville Tennessee. This work has become the foundation for Light of Day, a film/music project conceived and written by SM. Producer D. Clark (Florence+the Machine/Franz Ferdinand) is also part of the collaboration.
SM had the performance bug early on; growing up she did classical ballet, gymnastics and won several regional singing competitions. She appeared in her first feature film at 12 years old and performed at the White House at age 13. Doors continued opening for her when she was scouted in NYC and hired as a back up vocalist/dancer for a world tour with several top 40 acts when she was only 18. When she was not on the road, her time was spent in the studio recording and honing her craft with renowned vocal coach Katie Agresta.
Always happiest when she is creating, SM decided to pursue a solo career and began writing what would become her first EP, Empty. Released in 2008, and recorded with Grammy nominated producer Alex Elena and Josh Valleau (John Legend's longtime pianist), the EP was well received and spurred many live shows in NYC. Empty received international airplay, placed in the top 10 in various music charts and was nominated for Best New Alternative EP by The Deli Magazine.
In 2011, SM collaborated with various artists and released a music video for Disco Fever, which features Mean Girls star Daniel Franzese. SM has also had cameos in a few music videos. She is behind the keys in Grammy winning soul singer Billy Paul's video Ain't No Mountain High Enough, a duet with french star Chimene Badi, and in Little Jackie's The Stoop.
An accomplished model, SM has been photographed by many celebrated artists including James Porto and Hans Breder. She appears in a fine art book by Allan Jenkins.
