Film (short) by Tatwam Films (Fantasy, Thriller, Musical and Drama) Director / Producer The sacred stage within the Koothambalam, stands decorated and waiting in the glow of traditional lamps, for Harish Chakyar to present his craft. Being the rightful heir to his illustrious uncle and as the next in line of one of Kerala’s most celebrated ‘Chakyar’ families, Harish knows that it’s more than just a birthright to perform on a stage his ancestors have presented their craft for 5 generations. It’s an honour like none other. As a young Koodiyattam artiste of the modern age, performing a 2000 year old Sanskrit theatre form, Harish realises the importance of making most of this opportunity to open up a bright future for himself and his family. Over the next three nights in 3 performances spread over 5 hours, he will play 3 mythical heroes. Arjuna, Sugreeva and Bhima. He puts on the mask, makeup and the elaborate costume, and is ready for his first performance as a professional. En route he meets a stranger. The man demands from him something Harish can never give. What does this stranger ask from him and why does Harish find it impossible to give what he wants? That’s the story of ‘Aswadakan - The Connoisseur’. In part a suspense thriller, in part a study of the frailties of the human mind, set in the magical world of one of the most revered performing art forms of Kerala - ‘Koodiyattam’, Aswadakan presents the tenuous relationship between an artist, his audience and his art in a new light.
