About Mary

From Chicago, she forms a creative team with her husband, Wolfango De Francesco, an Italian designer, builder and retired professor. She has been based in Rome the last 35 years, working, volunteering and has had the fortune to have studied many disciplines for over 20 years, from University degrees to her formation at the painting conservation institute of the head restorer of the Sistine Chapel, Maestro Gianluigi Colalucci, to four years of architectural studies at architectural Lyceum and university, to sailing captain beyond -The-12-mile-limit course , studies and licensing as an international tour manager and much more, while living in the shadow of the Colosseum, and spending the last few years away from the chaos of the city, in the Roman countryside.Together they had a very formative period in the 1980’s-90’s working all over Italy and also abroad, as social workers for a well-known Italian chain of rehab centers, Saman, founded by their old friends, F. Cardella , M. Rostagno and C. Roveri, well-known philosopher-philanthropists, and who asked them, on the basis of their talents in teaching young people , can-do attitude , profound culture and inspiring creative-managerial abilities, to manage large restoration projects for the patients to gain solid life, coping and work skills.Among many years of projects, foremost, as a couple they founded and ran for six years Italy’s first floating rehab community , Project Garaventa, while living on-board two 44 m. minesweepers 24/7 and managing the work and crews of a fleet of ships and yachts in Italy, Malta and sailing in the Mediterranean, a profoundly unique and transformative period for all involved. She has years of experience as a Rome-based Italy writer for print and online USA papers and translated/interpreted between Italian and English and also French and Spanish. Most interesting to her, since the 1980’s she has completed deep historical research of her ancient European ancestral families in their peregrinations down close to two millennia, through nearly a dozen countries, traveling on-site during her summer holidays, also publishing her research online (see her LinkedIn profile)and using it for her degree thesis in Modern Languages and Literature and translation of four languages at the University of Rome, where she also studied journalism. If she didn’t have to work for a living, she would gladly dedicate her efforts to researching her four ancient ancestral families and their many centuries of fascinating known history. She and her husband have worked together for decades on meticulously planning and restoring many old structures, including stunning showcase venues, such as what is now known as the Energolab , in Milan, the high-tech newly restored headquarters of the “Tree “ Artisans in Rome , a rustic 1.004 year old ruin and what is now their top vacation rental, “The Minerva Apartment”, (available for stays on the three major vacation rental sites ) , a unique, hand-crafted Art Deco designer property near the Colosseum, within the old walls of Rome. Besides completing vast renovations and working on and coordinating the construction team of an experimental Berkut jet in “Project Berkut “ with the University of Malta , she and her husband have created many objects, and artistic furniture pieces together and are available for scouting locations, project management, production design , set/prop building. She is currently completing another degree at the University of L’Aquila in psychology and spends free moments painting adaptations of Old Masters gilt icons and renaissance portraits using original techniques and materials, besides works in modern styles, but most of her spare time she is reworking half a dozen books of her experiences, which she has no rush to publish.Since the mid-1980’s she has taught, interpreted and translated, subtitled, did voice-overs and adapted films (“Che sará di noi?”(2004), etc.) tv programmes (International version of The Sailing Channel, etc.)and various documentaries from Italian to English with an audio-visual studio in Rome and would like to work more with cinema/tv. She translated also for two aeronautical magazines and a cinema magazine, The Scenographer, and worked some PR for them at the Venice Film Festival with her own contacts in the film industry. She is close to her uncle,John Klawitter, who is an old school film director in Hollywood who worked with many of the Majors and she also helped him scout locations in Slovenia for a film in pre-production. She and her husband have several very close journalist friends , some of whom live in L A, reporting on Hollywood and who are deeply involved in the HFPA Golden Globes and who have given them an inside look on the industry in Hollywood, Rome and internationally over the last 35 years. She and her husband have lived in several countries and traveled to many, she is a dual US /Italian citizen and can work on both continents, he is a EU national and also speaks English. Both she and her husband are available for projects as a team or individually for work in Rome, Italy and elsewhere and remote online work and they have a team of artisans and a workshop ready to handle projects rapidly. Looking forwards to hearing work proposals here and meeting and sharing ideas with many other creative people in the industry for mutual benefit in the field.

Unique traits: A. creative team, with deep cultural backgrounds, good listening, realization and management skills. She is a dual citizen, can work in both US and EU and remotely. She speaks and writes four languages professionally, is bilingual English and Italian and fluent in French and Spanish.and has Italian State Tour Managercertification and certification from an art conservation institute in Rome besides a degree in Rome in four languages and having nearly completed another degree in psychology in Italy.Vast cultural, artistic, linguistic, managerial abilities, good research skills, widely traveled, disciplined workers who go the extra mile and add a personal touch to all they do.
