Mark Garland

My name is Mark Garland, I currently reside in Central Michigan with my lovely wife of 30 years, 3 cats with attitude and a very spoiled little Pomeranian.
I started writing screenplays about 15 years ago. I've completed 4 features and and have 6 more in various stages of completion. I was born and raised in sunny San Diego California where I spent most of time Surfing, riding motorcycles and working on fast cars.
I wrote my first script from a novel I had written several years earlier. I couldn't figure how to go about getting the damn thing published so I turned it into a screenplay. Funny, still haven't figured out a way to get it optioned either.
It's about a boat skipper who travels back in time to the year 1957 and has quite the adventure while he's there. Hint: he gets the girl in the end.
My favorite genres are Sci-fi, action, and Rom-com. I've always felt dramas were just too realistic and much like every day life. I prefer to be a dreamer and have some fun.
I love to create stories from a basic plot then let the story and the dialog write itself. I never really enjoyed watching movies where you had to be a Rhodes scholar to understand the dialog. People just don't speak that way.
