Film and literature have been an indelible part of my life for greater sum of it. It borders on obsession. Taking my experiences with my grandmother, who took me to see just about any movie i wanted to the chagrin of cousins who tagged along, I eventually started making videos using my high schools' camera equipment with a fellow student and a permission form from my 9th grade art teacher.
It was her last year, she had gone into public education in the late 60s as a young women thinking she was going to change things, As has happened to way too many educators who find work in the public school system, her verve slowly turned into cynicism. She pulled me aside a quarter through the school year one day and told me she'd overheard a fellow student of mine and myself talking about movies. In particular, one we had jointly written and had planned to shoot. She had already complemented me on my skill at picking up artistic technique very quickly and adapting it to my own style (Pointillism was a favorite). Here we had cut to her core,a great lover of movies, she made us a deal: she would cut out over half of her syllabus and assign to us as home work the producing of our film with the schools cameras and some of her own equipment. We of course said yes! For the next 5 months we rewrote the script found actors, crew and made our film. It was horrible- But i was hooked.
For the next few years i jumped on and off of productions, took classes at Columbia College in Chicago and gradually made my way to where i am today.
Makeshift Film Group was the name i gave to my alliance of highschoolers 20 years ago. Makeshift Film Group LLC is the name of the production company i founded that will produce my feature film debut "Thunder Lord".
THUNDER LORD is meant to be an homage & parody of Sci-Fi and Fantasy films of the late 70s to mid 80s - THE GOOD AND THE BAD.
This also involves the use of many production and FX technique that are indicative of the era with the aid of modern techniques (who wants matte lines and boxes!?)
Hopefully this film will kick ass and delight the audiences for whom it is intended!!
