I’m seeking an experienced script editor / development writer to help modernize and tighten a feature-length thriller originally written over 15 years ago.
The project is a dark, character-driven thriller centered on privileged teenagers whose weekend getaway spirals into violence, cover-ups, and moral collapse. Think Alpha Dog, Bully, Cruel Intentions, and Very Bad Things — grounded, uncomfortable, and psychologically sharp.
The goal is not to reinvent the story, but to:
Update dialogue, tone, and cultural references for a modern audience
Tighten structure
Strengthen character motivation and moral clarity
Reduce excess and sharpen tension
Maintain a grounded, realistic tone (not a slasher or camp horror)
This is a paid development job. I am open to:
A deep developmental edit with notes
A collaborative rewrite
Ideal candidates will have experience with:
Thriller / crime / dark drama features
Character-driven material
Developmental editing or rewrite work
Understanding of tone, pacing, and modern audience sensibilities
Please include:
Relevant credits or samples (thriller preferred)
Your typical workflow (notes vs rewrite)
Estimated timeline and rate
This project is intended to be market-ready and positioned for producers, festivals, or representation.
Hello Ryan,
I came across your posting for a script editor/development writer, and the project immediately caught my attention. The grounded, psychologically driven tone you’re aiming for, in the vein of films like Alpha Dog and Bully, is very much in the space I enjoy working within.
I’m a screenwriter and dialogue focused development collaborator with a strong emphasis on tightening structure, modernizing dialogue, and sharpening character motivation while preserving the original DNA of the script. I particularly enjoy working on material where moral tension and character psychology drive the suspense.
My typical workflow:
I usually begin with a focused developmental pass (story, structure, character clarity, tone consistency), followed by detailed written notes. From there, I’m comfortable moving into a collaborative rewrite or targeted dialogue and pacing polish, depending on the project’s needs.
Estimated timeline:
Initial read and notes: 7–10 days (depending on script length)
Rewrite/polish phase: timeline flexible based on scope
Rate:
Open to discussing based on the level of involvement (notes vs. full rewrite).
I’d be happy to review the script and discuss how best to help you bring it to a market ready level.
Best regards,
Glory Sunny
