About John

John Bolen is a novelist/playwright/actor living in Southern California. He has been published by Applause Theatre & Cinema Books (Hal Leonard Publishing), Independentplay(w)rights, Indigo Rising, Scars Publications, The Write Place at the Write Time, OC180news, Eunoia Review and YouthPLAYS. John is the Producing Artistic Director of the New Voices Playwrights Theatre & Workshop.

John has performed on stage in over 75 productions throughout Southern California including Monster (East West Players), A Party with Picasso (El Portal Center for the Arts), The Voice of the Prairie (Secret Rose), The Great Sebastians (Lillian), Twelve Angry Men (Underground), Lee Miller: The Angel and the Fiend (Getty Museum), Our Town (Chance), Psychopathia Sexualis (Alternative Repertory Theatre), Later Life (Long Beach Playhouse Studio), Three Sisters (Vanguard), and The Seagull (Chance).
John’s performances in film include Megashark vs. Giant Octopus, Flying Heroes, Lily, Between Us, California Winter, Yellow Brook, The Call of Cthulhu , Heather: A Fairy Tale, Falling, Bet Runner, The Inn Outside the World, Dream Parlor, This is Bill, and The Land. Television credits include Dead Men: The Series, CIA: Masters of Deception, Arrest & Trial, Final Justice, and Courage. As a voice artist, John has recorded over 40 audiobooks.
He has both a novel, Aurelia’s Magic, and a collection of short stories, Nothing for Christmas & Other Holiday Tales, that have been published
John has produced plays at stages throughout Southern California including the Secret Rose, Hudson Theatres, the Chance Theater, Stages, the Vanguard Theatre, Garden Grove Playhouse, Costa Mesa Playhouse, Cabrillo Playhouse, and Stage Door Repertory Theatre.
