Voice work

Hi guys, I want to start to put together a video of myself doing voices and impressions as I've been told for a long time I should do it by previous colleagues and family, friends etc. But however, I don't own any recording equipment and I'm looking for a decent Mic and setup that doesn't cost a fortune. Any vocal work I have done previously was using other people's equipment and I want to get my own set up. Anybody have any ideas of something that would be ideal for me at a good price or know of any for sale? Cheers guys CJ

Don't buy a mic based on its price, buy the one that compliments your voice appropriately. You'll book more work with a mic that makes you sound good rather than the one that was the best deal. If there is a music store near you, go in and try out the microphones they have. Even if you don't buy one of them you'll at least get a better idea of what you need, and then you can go to the Internet to try and find the price you are looking for on it. It's also not all about the mic, make sure you take care of your recording space. The best mic in the world won't sound any good if you're recording in a cement mixer. Acoustic treatment is very important. VO requires an investment to be competitive, both time and money. Good luck!
