In an ideal world, we would only take those roles that fulfill us as actors. There's roles we take to pay the bills, and then there's roles we take because we love it. Did you know that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman didn't get paid much for the last two seasons of Sherlock? But they kept coming back because it was fun and they loved it! What role is that for you? What roles do you find most fulfilling and why? Have you played a role where you took a pay cut for no pay just because you thought it would be fun for you as an actor? Let's hear it!

For me, the most fulfilling roles are the ones where I can bring a strong emotional truth to the surface. I love characters that feel layered, real, and human, even if the setting is completely out of the ordinary. I especially love playing bombastic characters and weaving in elements of dark humor when the role allows it. I enjoy the challenge of balancing vulnerability with strength, and contributing to a story that stays with people long after they’ve watched it.
I’ve never had a paid role before, but I’ve taken on projects simply because they resonated with me creatively. Sometimes the connections you make on those projects, and the way they stretch you as an actor, are worth far more than a paycheck.
There are definitely times when I’ve been given a role I wasn’t immediately excited about, but I try to approach it with curiosity. Even in a part that doesn’t feel like “my type” at first, I might find a line, a moment, or a part of myself that’s surprisingly enjoyable to explore. And no matter the role, there’s always the chance to meet new, interesting people and build connections I wouldn’t have made otherwise. In hindsight, those unexpected roles often become some of the most memorable.

Ugh. I did. Took a HUGE pay cut for one. I'm talking going back to doing student films pay cut. I played a Detective who is also...a bear. No, literally, a bear. No one in the film acknowledges it either. It's just a normal thing, which made it funny as hell. At first I didn't want to do it but my wife made me realize that A) it was a lead role and B) I hadn't booked anything other than commercials in a while. So I did it. And it was some of the most fun I've ever had on set! You never know how things will end up.

That does sound funny Brandon Keeton . And if we aren't having fun, then why are we doing it?

Suzanne Bronson I think my favourite roles are gritty complex characters with lots of depth and probably a fair amount of anguish
