Hello All, I'm an Atlanta-based costume designer with eclectic moving media experience - everything from industrials to shorts to feature film. I'm working my way up the ladder and about to apply to be a member of the Costume Designer's Guild Local 892 out of LA. I have a fashion design degree and the full complement of skills that come with it. I have a full working studio in my house for custom builds as well. I am also in the process of developing and mentoring a team of aspiring costumers who are available to work as set, key set, supervisors and stylists on any kind of production including print shoots. Some need to get some days in and work as interns, others have more experience and should be paid for their time. In any case, we are all looking to work more and on different projects. I would like to connect with Georgia based Directors and Producers, as well as those who may not be located here but may possibly want to shoot here. I prefer paid work but will consider 1-2 day shoots unpaid if I believe in the script and the project. I will consider longer term unpaid work for my team especially if it will give them the on-set experience they need to learn the roles in the costume department. As an aside, I would not mind producing either. I have completed all of the coursework for the Project Management certification and I am extremely detail oriented, organized, and task-oriented. Hi Victoria, My rates are subject to lots of variables. Design fees and custom builds are different than a 'shopped' show. If you need continuity work and a designer on set, totally different set of rates. I'd have to have specifics in order to quote rates to you. J
Hey Victoria, Ok, so if you wanted gowns custom built - such as a replica gowns the two wore - then it's going to cost probably more than you want to pay. Then again, the quality would probably be higher. I can do replicas of anything you've got a photo of and with an allowable time frame (3-5 weeks minimum). Replicas are actually harder than originals since I would be trying to source fabrics that probably don't exist any more so I'd have to look for substitutes. There's also the problem of fittings since I'm in Atlanta and you're in SF. With gowns there really does have to be fittings. You also need a really great makeup/hair person who can replicate the makeup and hair of those decades for those particular actresses. I can consult on those things but I don't design hair and makeup usually. Your second option is to hire a good stylist/costumer local to you who knows how to utilize rental houses like Western Costume in LA. You'll get a quality piece that you can return when you're finished, and the price will be a lot lower. The great thing about rental houses too is that they take care of the cleaning after the show. You just aren't allowed to alter the garment in any way. You are however allowed to provide measurements of your talent and they will do minor alterations for fit. If you'd like sketched conceptual designs based on what those two wore my rates start at $300 for about 4-6 pencil sketches and go up from there depending on number of changes and how many final colored sketches you require. I can do just that portion for you if you wish. I can also do just the research and provide you with a portfolio of inspirational images and information representing your idea. Research starts at $150/day for an 8 hour day. Does that help? Not to talk myself out of a job or anything, but for your purposes unless you intend to use those gowns again and again, the cost to do a custom build is prohibitive. My custom costume builds start at $2000 because of the pattern-making/draping and fittings required. My rates on a union film/tv production are subject to the union/negotiated rates. One-off costume building jobs using my own studio and equipment are always going to be more expensive than hiring me to do Costume Design for an actual production. Indie film rates are negotiable but I do NOT act as an all in one. I require that a separate Key Set Costumer and Set Costumer are hired. I only do Costume Design now, no set work for continuity, etc. I hope that helps. Jennifer

I am a costume and jewelry designer (primarily jewelry) and my work is in handcrafted artisan art jewelry, one of a kind and limited edition designs for the fashion crowd, but can do custom work for production. My specialty is wirework, beadmaking, and beadwork, so I am somewhat versatile.
