I got the following email today. I did some poking around and this is a flat out scam. If you get an email like this, it should go right in the delete file. There are at least four things wrong with this email. The fifth and sixth (in the part I deleted) were that there was no phone number attached to the email, and a link posted went right to the legit company's page saying this was a scam. Duh... The company mentioned seems to be legit. They are having problems with whoever is sending this. I have left off the person's name because they are apparently also a victim. Advent Film Group paulmunger@lovessavage.tv 9:21 AM (6 hours ago) to bcc: This email is to formally invite you to the Dean Foods TV Commercial shoot, which we’ll be seeking your services as a production assistant. The shoot will kick off from 06-03-2015 to 06-06-2015 in Broadway Studios, 435 Broadway St, San Francisco, CA but you will be needed here in San Francisco from 06-01-2015. All traveling and booking expenses will be covered by the company. Task: Gather all event materials used on-site (props, costumes, furniture, etc) and coordinate return delivery - Create, update and distribute Production Forms such as contact sheets, production schedules, travel lists, etc. - Gather all final media used on-site (music, graphics, video, presentations, etc.) and coordinate return delivery - Handle all local errands such as last minute purchase of props, costumes, etc - Provide any needed support to all team members The pay for this job is $600 per day. This is a freelance job and you are only needed for 6days, however your effectiveness during this period will determine if you will be employed for another production. Yep scam alright..... You ever notice also on some of the scam sites that the casting notices are expired. Do they think we are stupid

Advent Film Group seems to be legit-their name and email has been hijacked. But in the address which I deleted, there was a link to a web page that had a great big notification of this scam. Yea, they must think we're stupid.

What does the con artist gain from you in this instance? How are they making money from you? Really sounds like a PA job to me which could be confirmed with a phone call.

My call to Dean Foods was not returned. (PR fail here.) But the dead giveaway was the pay rate, $600 day, which is what a DP would get, not a PA. Why would they fly me to San Francisco, and put me up in a nice hotel, with all expenses paid, when they could hire local crew must less expensively? It doesn't make sense. When it sounds too good to be true... I get tired of people trying to take advantage of people working hard to make a living in a hard to make it industry. The same thing is common in the music business. Too many bullshitters and scammers willing to take advantage of the naïve.
