Finished television pilot (script)

Hi, I finished my television pilot (whew!), and I want to see my finished product on t.v. or online. What are my next steps?

D Marcus

Congrats on finishing!

Just a little expansion and clarity on Jeff's points. You cannot copyright the idea. Registering the copyright of your script is a given - I'm sure you have started that process. You can't just become a member of the WGA - you need to be a working professional before you can join. Getting an agent is a difficult process - if you're ready and have what an agency is looking for then you can start the process. One finished TV pilot isn't good enough. But you have more that just the one sample, right? Selling to TV is very, very different than selling a screenplay.

And you can't just join the WGA (unless your Script goes into actual producing and not just development. Go onto the WGAw website to find out how many points you need to join, and then how much money). As to copywriting a Treatment, yes you can. An idea? NO. A Treatment, yes. Also keep in mind that these days 'just a pilot' script will not be sufficient. You have to develop 'The Bible' for the Series, and that is usually an expanded treatment with at least the first season arc with each episode plotted out.
