I have a client who has done (years) of work to flush out a reality TV show. This is NOT my wheelhouse, but I like the concept and someone who knows this space might like it. Here is part of his summary: "This is an interactive geocaching based reality show dedicated to taking geocaching to the next level. We will achieve this by combining the excitement of the multi-stage intellectual adventure similar to the movie, National Treasure and innovative technology-driven obstacles to create a new type of adventure for the over 6 million strong geocaching community." The client is a subject matter expert on geocaching and has flushed out much of the details AND shot a pilot. Any ideas where to find someone who might be open to this? Thanks!
@Michael, I'm a scripted producer in LA, so unscripted is not my wheelhouse either. Luckily I have a couple friends who are major unscripted producers. Yours sounds like a Discovery Channel or Science Network type of show. In any case, even if my network guesses are incorrect, if you haven't done so already, make a list of your network targets. Then make a list of unscripted producers who have shows at those networks. Reach out to those producers with a well-crafted query letter. Offer to sign a submission release agreement. Cross your fingers!! Assuming your team has no experience, it will be hard to get an agent at this stage, so in unscripted, I'd say go straight to the unscripted producers who have credibility with your network targets.
Thanks @Regina! How do I find out the source for the list of unscripted producers who have had actual success with those target networks (I suspect Discovery and Science Network as well)?
@Michael, you'll have to use Google and IMDB to create your own list, cross-reference, etc. I'd have to do the same thing if I were you because unscripted shows with a "tech" angle are not my area of expertise. Or if you can pay, subscribe to IMDB Pro for more info, Variety Insight, or Studio System. The latter two are not cheap.
@Regina. Thanks SO much! Fingers crossed.
@Michael, I sent you a Private Message, in case you need more help but I think you'll be just fine with some elbow grease.
