I try not to let the lack of awards going to the great filmmakers get to me, especially around this time of year but, some of these directors not getting the ultimate directing accolade of an oscar nom is down right wrong. I mean, Guillermo del Toro is a visionary, Nolan will, I'm sure, get his directing nomination at some point, Joe Wright will (hopefully) bounce back from his 'Pan' fiasco and get another shot too but Penny Marshall... she'll never get the chance again. Does she care? Probably not. Should I care? Probably not as much as I do. Do you agree with this list? Who else should be on it? Should I stop complaining about accolades and focus on just enjoying the films these directors have made? I'M SO CONFUSED! End. http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/15-great-directors-who-never-got-...
I don't know if nomination alone is enough. But I would like the following to be better acknowledged: Martin Ritt, Philip Kaufman, Bob Rafelson, Sidney Lumet, John Schlesinger, Paul Mazursky, and Norman Jewison for starters.
