Getting to Work

Greetings Stage 32! I am an aspiring screenwriter and want to direct as well in the future. I use to act as a child, that was the moment I fell in love with film/television. My passion is for film. Right now I just want to start working, doing anything and everything I can. I'm working on my own projects, but I want to work with others. I want to be exposed and be surrounded by the process of making a film. (I'm talking "getting coffee, holding a boom mic, whatever I can do") I honestly do not know where to look to find work on films, but I would love to do anything involving film. I look forward to connecting with you all, and possibly working with you. Please feel free to give my any knowledge or insight you might have on getting work.

Hi Norman. There are job postings here, on mandy.com, media-match.com you can search through to apply. Go to la411.com get listing of grip, lights and camera rental houses, apply for internship or any work at one of these houses, from there you'll get to connect with tons of productions in LA. It's a good way of breaking into film crews and you'll learn about equipment. There are film productions listings at the back of magazines like indieslate, moviemaker, hollywood reporter, filmmaker.etc., apply to the production company for work. Don't forget film schools like USC, UCLA, AFI, NYFA at universal, work on as many student films as possible for when one of these students graduate and get a job. Attend CineGear in LA to meet rental houses, here's a free pass, quick today is the last day for free registration: http://www.cinegearexpo.com/category/regis2/attendeereg2/

You're welcome Norman. This industry is super hard even to earn a living, you've got to go into it knowing that, and having another part time job as a source of income if you're going to stay the course. Feel free to contact with questions. Also I like to add that the Hollywood Rep Directory is a highly sought after book, the last time I was in Santa Monica 2 years ago I saw a copy there, but your best bet would be the writers store. LA is absolutely full of film productions company, many should have a copy even outdated, you must have a friend who works in one.

Norman. r u licensed and have a decent car? If so, I may be producing a feature comedy in LA April, 2015 that can use your help, it'll be as a PA but paid. Email me your details.

Norman Johnson Jr.

I have a car, but not licensed. My email address is goldfortune100@gmail.com. What do I need to do to get licensed?

Ken Koh

I mean just a regular driver's permit.

Norman Johnson Jr.

Oh yeah! I have a driver's license.
