Introduce Yourself : Reintroducing myself by Colin Hussey

Reintroducing myself

I am based in San Francisco and am an onsite residential property manager with a few creative side hustles, namely acting, writing, graphics and photography. I also worked as a music consultant, a few years ago. (I got a BA in the subject back in the 1980s, and my knowledge of music ranges from medieval European polyphony to indie hip-hop of the early 21st Century. I'm always finding numbers I'd never heard before on YouTube, too, performed by a vast variety of musical talent from around the world.) Lately, the photography side of things has been predominant. I photo events and performances, mostly.

Here's a sampling of my body of work, which I put together for the Golden Gate Breakfast Club in 2022: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1X0v3guORU

I just watched your reel. I love that opening scene that’s black-and-white. The camera loves you! do you find it hard, balancing from a normal day job to your creative side?

Colin Hussey

I have as close to an ideal "normal day job" as can be hoped for to support my other lines of work. As a property manager, I just have to be available to coordinate with tenants and vendors whenever something needs to be fixed, respond to any issues, report regularly to the owners, and keep the common areas clear of packages, etc. It gives me lengthy windows of free time to work on whatever. In this situation, it can sometimes be a challenge to make up my mind what to do next, if I'm between gigs and don't have a deadline to meet for a client's work order.

Hey Colin Hussey! Love that you're balancing property management with acting, writing, graphics, and photography. That's a real creative hustle. And your music knowledge from medieval polyphony to indie hip hop is seriously wide. What kind of events do you most enjoy shooting and why?

Thanks, everyone!

Sam Rivera, my favorite events to shoot are those with gorgeous backdrops, yet are a bike ride away. Fortunately, San Francisco has an abundance of gorgeous backdrops. I also like fancy settings that I don't normally visit, like the Beacon Grand Hotel, where this pic was shot.
