Post-Production : Editing Workflow by Sam Chambliss

Editing Workflow

I've recently been shifted into a different editing position, and because it's always good to be learning and striving to be better, I went searching for some editing ideas/concepts that maybe I hadn't heard of or could benefit from reminding.

I've been watching some videos from This Guy Edits (Sven) you can find a lot of neat stuff on his YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ThisGuyEditsAnd I stumbled across one of his class intros. I didn't take the course, but I did get a bit of info on his process and thought it would be fun to share and discuss how other people start out their editing workflows.

Basically, he will watch through everything, and on first viewing he puts takes into 1 or three video tracks on a Selects timeline: Okay, Good, or Gold. Then once he's done the initial watch-through, he can take all of the GOLD clips and have a basic edit, working from there.

How about you? Do you have a method of editing workflow that suits you? What are your tips for getting that initial rough cut going?

Rosemond Perdue
