In the Cinematography lounge, James Woodland posted a short video about adding depth to images. He mentioned ways to accomplish this, but VFX artists' skills can be part of that toolset. There are some things that are much easier to accomplish in post than in real life, such as creating fictional environments, but there are also subtler techniques that VFX artists can use to help DoPs achieve their intended results, especially when combined with the on-set SFX department's work.
Let's discuss :)
Rakesh Malik I think this is where VFX becomes such a powerful storytelling tool. It’s not always about creating something massive or impossible, it’s often the subtle details that add depth, atmosphere, and emotion to an image.
When VFX artists collaborate closely with cinematographers and the SFX team, they can enhance the original vision rather than just fix problems in post. Small adjustments like extending environments, adding atmosphere, enhancing lighting, or creating visual continuity can completely change how an audience experiences a scene.
The best VFX is often the work you don’t notice, it simply makes the world feel more believable.
