Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has tips for me on how to breakdown a script and make an accurate budget? What software, preferably not to expensive, is really easy to use and calculates a budget within the script breakdown software. So all in one programme. Also where to get it and tutorials on it.
Building wings on the way down so all tips are very welcome and appreciated!! Thanks Caatje

Just a suggestion there is a software program called movie magic. Although nothing can be better than working with an experienced Line Producer. Just FYI make sure you check the line producers credits at imdboro.com. Good luck!
Thank you so much Steven! I'll look into that and I will take your advice at heart :-)

Yes, Caatje, you can either use software or hire a Line Producer. But if you're shooting a micro-budget you'll clearly save money and learn more by doing it yourself. First, number each scene. Then simply break the script down into the obvious categories such as: Locations, Day/Night, Actors (ordinary), Actors (name talent), Special Props/Needs (dogs, cars, etc), Key Scenes (which will make-or-break your film & require extra time/attention.) Then follow by grouping the common denominator scenes together into a 7 or 8 page per day shoot.... and fit that into your budget.

Erik A. Jacobson Those are GREAT suggestions. Thanks Erik! As I am on a tight micro budget of my own with (3) copyrighted scripts here in Manhattan.. That will save me $$ too. This one goes in my Stage 32 Binder of Data thanks Oh, BTW Caatje Van Leeuwen I have been a member going on 3 years listen to Erik A. Jacobson advice instead of mine his is better.

Google Docs had a great template that was color coded for each of those categories Erik mentions. I can't seem to find it anymore. Price is right. It's free.

Here's a template but not in color.
Thank you Erik, Steven and Paulette!! I very much appreciate it. And I feel you are right by doing it myself to learn and safe money. I will do it the old fashioned way and use this free doc. Really thank you all!!

For future gigs, don't overlook Steven's suggestion. There is much to learn from the pros.
