Screenwriting : Character Descriptions by Aaron Lumley

Character Descriptions

Three great character descriptions:

1. THE TERMINATOR - He could be a man — if men never blinked.

2. MARGE GUNDERSON - 35. VERY pregnant.

3. DETECTIVE SOMERSET - He listens like a man who’s heard it all before — and hated most of it.

Does anyone out there have character descriptions that they just love? If so let's share 'em folks!

Maurice Vaughan

I like those character descriptions, Aaron Lumley! I can't think of any character descriptions I love from scripts off the top of my head, but I could post a character description from one of my scripts if you want.

Please do!

Thanks, Aaron Lumley. Here's the description for the protagonist in the Horror Action feature script I'm rewriting. It's like The Purge with Vampires.

BRIAN CARPENTER (37 - stern, muscular loner and a vampire's worst nightmare) pulls out his driveway in a massive pickup truck with a bed cap and trailer attached. His metal beast rips through the street.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

I should read more scripts but the character description for Homer in my favourite novel The Book of Night Women, wherein she “smells of mint one moment and lemongrass the next” will forever live rent-free in my mind.

Maurice Vaughn 5, that's a great line, it reminds me of the old Chuck Norris joke....Chuck Norris is the man monsters look for under their beds, which I think they used a version of that in the first John Wick!

Thanks, Aaron Lumley. Brian is a John Wick Boogeyman for vampires type character. I'm still working on his description.
