I was reluctant, very reluctant, to use Final Draft. Most broadcasters have their own scriptwriting methods, especially TV stations in Brazil. TV Globo had adopted this software a few years ago. I took a course with a screenwriter who previously worked at Globo, and she taught me how to use this dreaded formatting program. However, it is very expensive, especially for professionals from countries where the currency is slightly devalued.

I definitley understand where you are coming and go back and forth on if what I'm doing is right, I also recommend checking out a Proofreading Order if you ever want a second set of eyes on your script, check it out here!>>https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/proofreading

Final Draft is a great software and it's what I use primarily. There are lots of free screenwriting softwares out there as well like Writer Duet, Highland II and Fade In. There's plenty of options to pick from these days, so don't feel trapped into a box having to use one software. Most of the softwares these days can convert Final Draft files or PDFs into their own software as well. But if you're gonna write for movies and TV, you need to be using the industry standard formatting to be taken seriously. Luckily though the basic formatting is the same across most all screenwriting softwares, so you learn it once and you're good to go!

So focusing on what your post is about, using Final Draft in a job. If that's what the job requires, and you want the job, then you learn, and use, it. Outside of work, you can use it, or use one of the many options that have been mentioned. There are instructions about how to set up Microsoft Word into a script writing template with command keys. Pretty cool.
