SCRIPTNOTES The book - A review

Have had a somewhat rough start to 2026, with a dose of shingles on the scalp - not wholly rid of it yet but getting there - hoping to get back to my screenplay before the week is out - in the meantime I did finish John August and Craig Mazin's distillation of their podcasts in hardback book form and can highly recommend it - here's a review:

Hi, Michael Thorn. Sorry to hear about the shingles. Hope it goes away soon! Thanks for sharing the review! I've listened to the Scriptnotes podcast. I plan on getting the book.

I’m about halfway through Scriptnotes. A lot of info I already know, but enough gems of advice to jot down as notes! Well laid out, fast chapters. The interview sections are fun and bring in other points of view.

As to why the cover features a typewriter, not a computer? Well, it’s the logo for their podcast.

(I suppose we could ask why the typewriter represents the podcast. Symbolic and iconic, I suppose.)
