Thanks! What is the best ways to get it out to producers. I know it sounds naive but should I just email it to as many producers I can, even the well established and just hope for the best?. If I upload the screenplay on here will the be of some benefit? Thanks
one way to sell your screen play is to get a literary agent who will shop it for you to network and studios. Kinda like agents/agency for actors! they will get a cut off the asking price! if you don't have a full script you can write a treatment , which includes as you know the characters, synopsis, back story etc. that which is a lot easier to write and less time consuming.
You can try Inktip, sellascript.com, the black list, Amazon Studios. Amazon gets thousands of screenplays, but it's free. For contests you can find a lot of them on WithoutBox.com. You have create an account, upload your screenplay and submit to the contest you want.
One contest that I love that is open right now for submissions is TrackingB's contest - if you win you don't get any prizes; their sole mission is hooking you up with representation, and last year they were very successful doing that for their writers - in fact, I believe all 5 finalists ended up with reps as a result of this contest. As far as selling as a script, considering that a total of 132 specs sold in the industry last year, that is a much bigger hill to climb. Before you go after representation, make sure you get your script vetted, because you really only get one chance.

The letter is the pitch or the actual screenplay. Would you mind checking out my log line? Is it too long? Thanks a lot.

Thanks everybody didn't think people would be so helpful. Hey Le Picante, there is a market for treatments!?
And Jacqueline, I know the feeling you can always add more. But at least get something out there. I'd be interested in reading it.

Get rep. Literary rep is some of the easiest to get. Research the companies that strictly deal with screenwriters and take unsolicited work.

Perhaps you could film parts of your script as a mini taster of the project, to gather an interest online or for investors of your script.
