First of all apologies if this topic has been covered many times before - I'm sure it's a common question. I've just finished co-writing a 30-minute pilot for a sitcom and have a detailed synopsis for a six-part series. Apart from BBC Writers' Room though, does anyone know of any production companies accepting unsolicited submissions, or is there a list of production companies somewhere that I can look at to see which to approach? As a journalist and writer I have good contacts in the publishing side, but know virtually nobody/nothing about the TV production side. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I suppose another option would be to try to produce a low-budget pilot myself, a la the boys from The Office, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start! I have acted and (stage) directed in the past, but that was some time ago.
I say look at the festivals first. Most production companies won't look at anything out here in Hollywood unless you have a name. Even being in the business it's extremely hard to get anything to be looked at.
