Anything Goes : The Little Mermaid, newly adapted by Susan I. Weinstein

I recently adapted Andersen's The Little Mermaid for a production in Williamsberg. It's June 4-8th. Here's a show that is being developed with a cross media approach. Charlie Kanev has translated The Little Mermaid using the traditions of Bunraku, shadow, and rod puppets in a visual approach, where a fabric horizon line separates worlds in air and under the water. Adaptation interpreted the theology for our time. Original music is atonal. It was a challenge to adapt a classic, keep language and integrity, yet make it work for puppetry.
