NM FILM WEEK SEPTEMBER 9, 2015 This week’s program is brought to you by New Mexico Actors at NMActors.com. New Mexico Actors, Lighting the Highway to Hollywood. GOTTA LOVE INDIE Q AT THE KIMO Ann Lerner of The Albuquerque Film Office in conjunction with the City of Albuquerque and The KiMo Theatre present Indie Q at The KiMo on Wednesday, September 16. Indie Q is a quarterly free screening of locally-made films. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the screenings start at 7:00 pm at the KiMo Theatre at 423 Central Ave NW in Albuquerque. Featured at Indie Q are short films, music videos, short documentaries, web series videos and trailers for upcoming films. Some of the films scheduled for the September event are “Hot Yoga” by Tracy Jordan, “Detention” by Aaron Alexander, “Knots” by Dennis Foulkrod,“Rumba” by Christina Aguilar,“Delivery From Earth” by Michael Becker, “Mancato” by Joe Wilson, “F 16 Taco” by Jerry Hanks & Michael Romero, “How do you do that Voodoo” by Janie Elliott, “Leverage” by Vivian Nesbitt and the three short films “Lowered Expectations,” “We Could be Heroes,” and “Chips and Salsa” all from CNM. FILM FANS LOVE “MONDAY” Along with all these short films premiering at this upcoming Indie Q event will be the trailer for “Monday,” Alejandro Montoya Marin’s newest short film. I interviewed Alejandro about his film and the upcoming premiere of the trailer and you can see that interview at the link provided at the end of this episode. I have to say that I’ve seen the trailer and it is amazing, exciting and so professional, you would think it was a big budget studio film. NEW MEXICO FILM FOUNDATION LOVES WISE PIES Dirk Norris, Executive Director of the New Mexico Film Foundation reminds us to visit the Wise Pies in Nob Hill, at the corner of Girard and Central Avenue, from Septemer 27 to the 30th for an easy fundraiser. LAS CRUCES LOVES FILM Ross Marks, Executive Director of The Las Cruces International Film Festival, has announced the appearance of veteran actor and action superstar Danny Trejo and a contest aimed at bringing a TV series to Las Cruces. To enter, shoot a 60- to 90-second trailer to submit to the festival. The winner will get $25,000 in goods, funds and services to shoot a TV pilot in Las Cruces. There is a first-look deal with Lionsgate in place to view the pilot. Deadline for the contest is January 15. The film festival will take place March 2 through 6, 2016. LOVING THE GILA RIVER AND TIMELAPSING AT WNMU Films from around the world and the southwest will be featured in the inaugural Gila Timelapse Film Festival to be held September 24 through the 27th in Silver City, New Mexico at the Western New Mexico University. Desert Flower, filmed in Joshua Tree National Park, Jewel of the Dolomites filmed in northern Italy, and Light Study from Canada are just a few of the films to be screened. The Gila Time-lapse Film Fest is part of the 11th Gila River Festival, a yearly event that celebrates the Gila River, New Mexico’s last wild river. Selected films will be screened throughout the four-day event. The event is free for students and $5 at the door for non-students. Find more information at the Gila Conservation Coalition website. TAOS LOVES THE ENVIRONMENT The Taos Environmental Film Festival will take place at the Taos Community Auditorium, on Thursday and Friday, October 1-2, 2015 at 7 pm. Featuring films “When the Mountain Calls” and “The Quietest Place on Earth” on Thursday and thirteen short films along with a special tribute to conservationists Tom and Stewart Udall, Senator Martin Heinrich and Robert Redford. Admission is free, and you can find more information at the Taos Fall Arts website.
