SYNOPSIS:
THE ANCIENT GRIDIRON combines political intrigue with over-the-top action. With vague similarities to modern day football and rugby, the script takes on a burial world of its own, creating an environment within the Coliseum riddled with spikes, jagged rocks, and chained animals, leaving two gladiators teams fighting for survival. The story follows Donidas, who is forced into leadership during Rome’s bloody gladiator season. Standing in his way is Titicus, the arrogant leader of the Roman Army Team. As Donidas rises in popularity, Titicus vows to crush him every step of the way, which creates a rivalry even politicians take notice. This makes the game more than a game but essential to Rome’s future. The script blends the drama and spectacle of traditional sword-and-sandal epics like GLADIATOR with the thrills and emotional ride of a team sports movie such as ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. The script has enough action and fresh visuals to stand alongside any summer tent pole, while it’s engaging story promises to bring audiences back for a second viewing.
This was a fun one to write.
