THE OTHER WAR - TELEVISION MINI-SERIES

THE OTHER WAR - TELEVISION MINI-SERIES
By Sarah Gabrielle Baron

GENRE: Drama, Fantasy, Historical
LOGLINE:

In the backdrop to the war of 1812, Native American shapeshifters battle an ancient vampiric evil from the Old World.

SYNOPSIS:

The mysterious young man, Miisigen, arrives on the eastern shore of lake Huron; what was once Wyandot territory but is now inhabited by a small band of Anishnaabek. Many dark omens surround Miisigen, but he is taken in by the tribe's medicine man, Weniishiwe. Weniishiwe is teaching the men how to shapeshift into wolves. It is a dangerous and difficult ceremony. Miisigen is successful his very first time.

Meanwhile, at the south end of Lake Michigen, the great warrior Tehkumseh is enraged at his younger brother, the One Eyed Prophet, for continuing to grow his death-cult. Tehkumseh doesn't realize how evil it really is: the Prophet keeps a vampire in a cairn under his lodge, and is being infused with the evil powers, turning his followers into mindless zombies and blood drinkers.

Miisigen and the beautiful young woman, N'gwaankwad Kwe (Cloud Woman) are not able to fall in love, because her abusive father forbids it. He is jealous of Miisigen because the boy is allowed to attend the secret shapeshifter ceremonies, but he isn't. Miisigen angers the tribe when he shapeshifts into a wolf without the use of ceremony. It is dangerous, and no-one trusts him now. He is put under 24 hr. watch.

Miisigen redeems himself by having a vision that helps save one of the children in the small tribe. Miisigen and the other men look for recruits at the tribe near the English Fort and when they return they learn that N'Gwaankwad Kwe's father sold his priceless family heirloom, Pontiac's 1764 Wampum Belt (native equivalent to the peace treaty with the British) to fur traders, and N'Gwaankwad Kwe left with them, to remain the wampum belt's protector. Now Miisigen is torn: stay with his tribe on their mission to assist the British against the looming invasion of Americans, or break with his pack and go to help Ngwaankwad Kwe. END PILOT Character Arcs: Tehkumseh vs. his nemesis Indiana territory governor William Henry Harrison. Canadian icon Sir Isaac Brock, the consummate lady's man, who falls hard for Ngwaankwad Kwe. The One Eyed Prophet and how the insidiously evil vamipire skeleton changes hands to the doomed American General Hull, and then to the native's greatest ally the Canadian Matthew Elliot, and finally to Harrison. ALL tie into Miisigen's overarching character arc: Miisigen is keeping it a secret that he is Tehkumseh and the One Eyed Prophet's nephew, and he has an unbreakable psychic tie to the vampire, because Miisigen is the one who woke it up! This series has two excellent Writer's Room resources to rely on: Pierre Berton’s two books ‘The Invasion of Canada’ provide historical accuracy on all matters from politics to arms and war costume, with an emphasis on character depth, and James Alexander Thom’s ‘Panther in the Sky’, a historical fiction on the life of Tecumseh and his problematic brother, the One Eyed Prophet. The Pilot and bible are ready for your request!

One of the "unluckiests" wars in the history of american cinema ( I know only like two big titles telling a story set in that era ) + shape-shifters + vampires = sounds great ;)
