Getting yourself heard

Marketing is a significant piece of the puzzle when it comes to success as a voice over talent. I'm not consistent at it but focusing on getting better. I've called a few production companies to ask if I can submit my demos and I've just contacted a few via Mandy.com. I am also on voices.com but you can't rely on just one avenue for work. What are some of the ways you market yourselves to get your voice heard?

Hey Deidre...I listened to your reel and I must say, I LOVE YOUR PIPES!! Okay...first thing, your commercial reel is 45 seconds too long. You have some good spots, so you need to pick the strongest and bring down to a minute, 1:05 at the most...and put the strongest at the beginning. The "powers" get so many demos, sifting through them is an arduous process and you gotta grab em at the top of your reel. Now, marketing...NETWORK!!!! Here, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. Connect with the "powers"...find out their position, let them know who you are, what you can do. But, you can't go in half steppin; make sure you have a portfolio, resume, etc. Better to have it and not need it than vice versa. Of all the "powers", one of my agents told me never to contact the advertising agencies. I just stumbled onto this dope article here at Stage 32 this morning. It is the business!! https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/advisor/mistakes-avoid-networking-114741... Also, get all the information about the industry that you can get in your circle. Go to www.vobuzzweekly.com and watch the episodes INTENTLY. The information is priceless, it's coming from the leaders in the industry and IT'S FREE!! The hosts are great people and feel free to comment. Sorry about the novel. Please know that the VO community is the best group you can hope to be involved with. We all wanna see each other win. Please keep me posted on your progress. If there's any other way I can help, anything I have is yours. All the best to you and the outcome of your journey. Blessings.

Dear B.Z. Thank you soooo much. I'm at the beginning of this journey and trying to learn as much as I can. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and write back to me and I will definitely stay in touch. Yes, at the end of the day it's about relationships, business, talent, being a good person and giving back. Thank you for taking the time to give to me!!!
