I just finished my first script for a feature film (after two revisions) . I'm pretty much happy with the script and I have sent to few people for suggestions. Like most screenplay writers , I wish to send my script to contests. Before sending to contests , is it necessary to get my script copyrighted? or does it even matter?
Yes it matters, you should always have your work copyrighted before you send it to contest or anyone else outside of your circle of trust.
Yes, but send it anyway. It can take up to 8 months to process the copyright.

Save your money and only use the US Copyright office for registering scripts. The WGA registration adds nothing to that for an original spec script.
