There is a strong belief in psychoanalysis, that severely tabooed issue is the most topical. Professionally speaking, the more actively the repression takes place, the more traumatic and important the repressed thing is. Of course, incest is among such matters – it is bypassed in conversations, and, in case of necessity, discussed with anguish and in a low voice - even in the language of art. In David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars we do not see any trace of a low voice - incest is duplicated, repeated over and over in different variations, yelling about itself. Nevertheless, it is thoroughly ignored by the spectator’s consciousness, leaving only the film’s satirical atmosphere on the surface, without noticing the inner sense. Critics have cohesively tabooed the issue of incest in their reviews as well, although it is the key to the whole story. Screenwriters and authors I need your opinions and thoughts. Interesting article, Lone, thanks for posting it. Narcissism certainly pervades this film. I have only seen extended clips and various trailers but the theme is palpable.

This is why I love Cronenberg, he's very good at going where few dare.
