I'm a British scriptwriter trying to do something about the appalling lack of female directors and scriptwriters in England - and the lack of diversity behind the camera. For instance, in 50 years Dr Who has only had two female directors and writers. It seems women in the UK - if they get to work at all - can only work on children's TV and soaps. So, no action, no thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi.... I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture. What can be done? I'm tired of knocking my head against a brick wall..

Ah yes...it's a problem all facets of the industry have been having...at least people are talking about it now! I think awareness is the first step, then I think we just have to start making things on our own and publicize the hell out of it. Yes, we can write/direct/compose/etc. just as well as men. Need proof? HERE! :-)
Hi Alice, great to meet you. I agree do need more excellent female directors and screenwriters in the US as well. Having studied at LAMDA I feel a strong connection with the theatre, film and television created in the UK.
