Malcolm Gladwell has an excellent book, The Outlier, that suggests the difference between those who achieve great things is not innate talent but 10,000 hours of practise, and that it holds true for almost any field. Successful screenwriters tell us the same thing. You have to love something a LOT to put in 10,000 hours, so follow your bliss!
This reminds me of my favorite quote from Thomas Edison: "Invention is ten percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration". I schedule fifteen hours a week to writing. Most weeks get up to twenty or even thirty, but I always get at least fifteen. It is a realistic schedule that I can keep. What do you guys commit to?
