Introduce Yourself : Aspiring sitcom writer by Stephen Harmon

Aspiring sitcom writer

Hi all, I'm new to Stage32. In fact, I'm new to all of this. I've been big into stand-up comedy and sitcoms my entire life. I tried a stand-up crash course but didn't find it helpful or useful. I've only recently started writing (attempting to write) my own sitcom. I'm still just finding my feet but I'm enjoying it immensely. Any tips/ideas or anything like that would be greatly appreciated! Having read some of the introductions I see lots of seasoned pros in the industry so apologies if I'm in the wrong place! I'm @harmolufc on twitter! Thanks for reading...! Stephen

First, congrats on your stand-up class...that is brave (only did it once). Another thing that helps me a lot with my writing was several years taking improv classes. It's a chance to try characters on your feet and you don't have to be good at acting. I did my classes at Second City and Bad Dog Theatres in Toronto, but I'm sure you can find something local to you.
