Just out of curiosity, how early do people start considering their cast and crew in the development stage? How often do you already have an actor (you've worked with before) in mind when writing the script? Or a particular DP or composer in mind when imagining the finished product. Again, I'm thinking about people you've already worked with rather than a "Natalie Portman" type or "Danny Elfman" sound.

I think it is totally natural to visualize "your" actors in roles because you know that the chances of getting them are much, much, much better than any SAG agreement whatsoever.

As a producer, I'd encourage both writers and producers to think about your actor and director lists early. Your goal is to get the movie made. Knowing that you have the elements who are capable of realizing your script is very important.

I just scribbled a screenplay, I based it around the original Dusk till Dawn cast, Do I really expect to put them all back together ? No. It helps writing their characters, Companies do not like you to submit a screenplay with actors attached or sound tracks or wardrobe.......if the work gets picked up at some point you can say which actors you wrote it around. cheers
