Introduce Yourself : Storyboard illustrator by Emily Tabet

Emily Tabet

Storyboard illustrator

I'm an illustrator specialising in storyboarding and comic art with 5 years of freelancing experience, a BA in Graphic Design from London Metropolitan University and 2 years training in fine arts at the Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts. For the most part, I've worked for horror films - feature length and short - doing anything from storyboards, concept art, production design and such. I even got to be an extra in Gangsters, Guns and Zombies, which was the first film I ever worked on. I love watching movies and reading books and comics and to be able to work in these mediums is more than I dreamt of. Work never feels like a chore when research means sitting in from of some fantastic films!

Hi Emily, impressive pedigree! I am a producer from Kentucky, USA and I just started pre-production on a new horror feature called Church Lock-in. Its a creature feature and my Director and I were talking about some of the action fx sequences and we quickly realized that we need to have them storyboarded. Neither of us have ever used a storyboard artist, so I'm unclear at how to hire one. Do you charge by the piece or by the job overall?

Emily Tabet

Hi Christopher, If you're just looking to have certain specific scenes storyboarded, I tend to charge per day - an average of 300$ to 350$ a day depending on the level of detail you need, if you want them in full colour, or if you need them to be bigger than the average size. If you have the scenes panned out already and some notes on what you want them to look like, i can give you an estimate of how many frames it would take to draw and charge per frame - 15$ to 25$ per frame (again depending on detail/colour/size). In both cases, any extra frames to draw; if the script changes, or you want to change something after i've finished a panel - i charge per frame. If i need to redraw something because of a mistake on my part, there is of course no extra charge. I hope that helps, and it would be really cool to work on your film, the title sounds very promising!
