I agree with Simon Hunter (another Raindance director) "A feature is a long short". I don't think the duration of how many minutes any film is on screen ......portrays its quality.
So... Interesting perspective, but how do you explain SUNDAYS by Mischance Rozema http://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/warner-bros-puts-sundays-diary/?
Aha Julie - there are many different routes and many feature filmmakers have cut their teeth on shorts. The Stage32 Shorts ~I watched at Raindance Film Festival (with Amanda and RD) were truly awesome, as were the other shorts rogrammes we screened (20 in all!) Have a look at these: Shorts that launched careers of famous directors: http://www.raindance.org/16-short-films-that-launched-the-careers-of-fam...
Mark Stirton does have have point, I think. remember he is writing froma British perspective ;-)
Thnaks for your comment D.D. - and I do hoope that others find the point as touy mention above!

Elliot... Is one step beyond genius... his message is honest & practical. two rare traits in today's milieu...
I agree being honest is rare today, and the article is humorous and mildly amusing, but knocking all shorts is not intellectually viable. There are Excellent shorts and Crap shorts. There are excellent features and crap features. I don't call a generalised piss take "Genius."....... "Speak the Truth and Shame the Devil" I always have done, but wouldn't say it's one step beyond.
