Hi, I just joined because I wanted to take part in the Robert McKee webinar. I recently wrote a short film and want to produce it along with my husband. I've read all the Syd Field books but from what I've heard, it sounds like McKee will give me even more insight into writing a great script. Mainly an actor but also write a lot.

I attended his 30 hr Story Seminar in NYC. It was amazing. I was wanting more at the end. I still ponder many of the points he made. His book, "Story," was a good companion with the class. The problem for me was how to put these ideas into practice. That's a challenge. Welcome, Christine. This is an amazing site. I have made some wonderful contacts over the years since I've been here.

Thanks, and hello! This webinar was so motivational. I've been inspired to dust off a couple of old stories to see what I can do with them.

Best of luck Christine, with your short...keep locations simple & close, so you can shoot it over a weekend.

Welcome Christine... you're going to love it here.

Welcome, Christine! You are gonna love it here! .... I read Syd's books and got coverage from him in his backyard before he passed. What an experience - Great guy! Real big on Plot Point 1 and 2! .... Haven't had the chance to meet McKee, but I studied his book too. My fav chapter is about THE GAP. That stuck with me: What's happening in the gap? Did RM talk about THE GAP'?

There was a bit of information overload for me. I took notes only occasionally because I didn't want to miss anything. But there was a lot of great info. I don't remember him saying anything about the gap. I will have to find time to review the webinar again.

Thanks Adam. Yes, the plan is to shoot over the weekend. Roughly, 7 or 8 rooms within one location. We have 2 exterior shots right outside the primary location. It's a very short script. Also, thank you, Sylvia for the warm welcome. I hope to be able to check in at least once a week.

Aray, you missed a good one but there is always next time!

@Shawn... how amazing you got to spend time with Syd Fields... that's amazing. Regarding Robert McKee... I took the seminar in NYC a couple of years ago... the seminars ran from 9 am to 7 pm with a one hour lunch. Totally exhausting. On the first day there were a couple of straddlers... at the most 5 minutes late... he castrated them and announced that the next day the doors would be locked if you weren't in your seats by 9 am. He meant business... so of course anybody on day 2-4 were late they had to wait till the next break to be let in. Really? A little over the top...we reserved a room in a hotel... food, drinks, cabs... etc... after all this was not high school... these folks were all paying customers... most of us not familiar with the traffic in NYC... especially that first day... I felt bad for them... my hotel was close by... but some folks were in hotels in New Jersey because they couldn't afford to be closer to the venue. FYI... I also took John Truby's class in NYC... totally different vibe... he didn't spotlight people that were late... he didn't embarrass them by scolding them... he's such a gentleman. I really like him a lot. Anyway, I was glad to see that Bob's admitted that he's not teaching the craft. Robert McKee's never written a screenplay... but he's got a reputation as the Story guru ... and I took his 4 day intensive course. It was heavy duty course and I believed I needed it... yes I learned a lot about the craft... but by examples of other people's work... I'm happy Robert McKee was doing a Stage 32 webinar... but it became abundantly clear... he's pushing his upcoming Dialogue book... and then there's the Character book coming up... you decide how you feel about it... honestly... he needed us much more then we needed him. He will benefit from our membership... I mean it's a big deal... but I've had better teachers on S32 classes in the past couple of years that I learned from... my favorites on S32 ... Lee Stobby's Lab... Jairo Alvardo's Labs... all the guys that work in the trenches and share their experiences and wisdom with us. I have a tooth ache... and can't see my dentist until Friday... so I'm a bit cranky right now....education is very important here on Stage 32... I've benefited... I'm a FINALIST today with Creative World Awards & a SEMI finalist with Stage 32 because of the education S32 provides don't know when they post again... hopefully I'll be a FINALIST here to... it's all because of all the amazing educational benefits that Stage 32 offered... Just sayin'. xoxoxo
