I'm a writer, turned screenwriter turned fledgling Director/everything else. I'm scouting locally for possible locations to film my 30 minute comedy pilot. Then it occurred to me while I was swimming at my fitness center that it would be a perfect location to film most of the scenes in my pilot. Now I need advice on how to approach the owners and negotiate a deal. This is a no-budget project, at least for now. Any advice on what to do next? Your input would be greatly appreciated, particularly if you've gone down this road before...
Tell them your project will help put Kelseyville, California on the map. In return for getting the venue for free, agree to film at off hours. Ask if one of the owners wants to have a walk-on part or small role. See how much CREDIT you can give them (screen credit, website credit, mention in the printed materials distributed at local screenings). If the fitness center has a LOGO T-shirt, try to have someone wear it onscreen. Good luck.

All you can do is ask, what's the worse they can say is, no. Maybe follow some of the suggestions that LindaAnn gave you. Good Luck!

Thanx for your help folks. I'm putting together a proposal now and will include your suggestions. Got a good feeling about it. Just found out there are twins working there. Will include them in the script. Nice little addition.
Twins working there! Great! Always remember the fund-raising trick of offering a movie role in exchange for a generous donation (cash or in-kind). Rock on!

Good advice. I've got my pitch together and will be using it tomorrow at the center. Thanks.
We're rooting for you, my friend!
