Introduce Yourself : Seriously fun writer, director, producer by Daresha Kyi

Happy Sunday Everyone,

My friend swears by this wonderful community and insisted I join, so here I am - ready, willing and able to network and meet new folks. I write, produce and direct for film and television in all kinds of genres and mediums. I also love to dance and sing and have even been in a couple of bands! In February I completed my first feature length documentary, Chavela, which won the 2nd place Audience Award in the 2017 Berlinale (after I Am Not Your Negto). Chavela Vargas was a bad ass singer with a deeply moving voice who went onstage wearing pants, a poncho and a pistol, smoking cigars, swilling tequila and singing love songs to women in archly conservative, super macho Roman Catholic 1950s Mexico. In short, she was a bad ass!

I'm currently developing my next independent documentary feature and of course, I also have some feature scripts and a bible for a television series like so many others in this community, I'm sure. I am also looking for work in TV, where I usually make my bread and butter. I'm currently based in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn but am looking to relocate to Atlanta for a better quality of life (and to be near my adorable, aging mama.) I am available for work as a show runner or a field, studio, segment or post producer and I can work in NY, LA, Atlanta and Miami.
