Screenwriting : Introduction of character by Annette F Hummell

Introduction of character

Do you know if you're supposed to bold names when introducing a character?

Pablo Diablo

When first introducing a new character, they must be in ALL CAPS.

Richard Gustason

Like Pablo said, the character names are usually all caps. But never seen any script that has the character names in bold. So on the safe side I wouldn't bold. But all caps...yes.

Shaun Goldsmith

Hi Annette. To answer your question, no - a character's name needs only to be capitalized when introduced and is traditionally not bolded. Hope this helps.

Yes Annette; I do know that you ought not bold character names and I know to use bold in the dialog very, very sparsely.

Chad Stroman

I echo what others above have said. Also be judicious in your use of bold or italics or underlines throughout the script as well.

I have taken to making bold my scene headings and I add underlines for dialogue items of emphasis (I do overuse this unfortunately) and then all uppercase for in action SOUNDS.
