Gotta love Michael Arndt. His spec script Little Miss Sunshine won for Best Original Screenplay, and his second screenplay Toy Story 3 was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. No other writer ever had their first and second produced screenplays nominated in those two categories before, if I recall correctly. After those he wrote or co-wrote Oblivion, Hunger Games:Catching Fire, A Walk in the Woods, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. J.J. Abrams calls him "one of the best writers around."
He's a brilliant dramatist; refused to give up (Sunshine was his eleventh script); and is as humble as a nun.
And 2017 was a great year for great stories. In the three years that I've been a member here on Stage32, some disgruntled posters had complained about how bad they perceived the current state of American cinema was, and I'd responded with the names of the great films made in those years. 2017 had many, many, many great stories brought to life, and I hope you saw some of them. Hats off to the producers who helped bring those stories to fruition, and to the writers who wrote them.
There has never been a greater time in the history of cinema to be a screenwriter.

Uncle Phil follows no man. But there's a couple of old, dead guys I like.
None. I'm more of a Chopper Chicks In Zombietown kind of guy.

Me. I haven't won an OSCAR yet - but I'm workin' on it. Just following myself takes up a lot of my time.
