Better weather versus a slightly better opportunity. The chance to live affordably in New Jersey would have me choose New York.

Careful if you live in either. Humans always think the grass is always greener elsewhere.
I've spent some time in LA. Two of my closest friends live there. Personally, I felt a surge of energy there that I've never felt anywhere else. I loved the weather. I loved the people. I loved being surrounded by the industry. I loved the girls. Venice Beach is probably my most favorite place on the planet. And I cried the first time I saw the Hollywood sign! That said, I don't think a permanent move there is the best thing for me at this time. I mean, how am I going to learn and grow as a writer-director when I'm working 80 hours a week at three day jobs just so I can survive?
I'm not happy where I am though. I want to check out Portland and Austin, and then make a decision about a permanent move.
