iCompositions Shutting Down Permanently

My primary music site, icompositions.com had a massive series of software and server malfunctions on July 4th and have decided to shut down permanently on Aug 11.

I plan on moving to another site by then. Right now I am looking at reverbnation and soundcloud where I also park some of my music.

Soundcloud is a significantly more popular and where most of my composer friends park their music. Alexa ranks it at #110 worldwide overall of all the Internet sites (not just music).

If you have any other sites to suggest, please let me know.

Hey Joel, in case this is helpful, I use SoundCloud. I have actually deleted my Reverbnation account and am using SoundCloud exclusively. I actually have a SoundCloud Pro account so I can upload more music. On SoundCloud I have my demo reels, sample cues and demo playlists that I embed on my website. When I am submitting for a film composing opportunity I create a private playlist just for that opportunity and then send them the link to the playlist. I found Reverbnation to be better for artists/bands. They have a lot of marketing tools you can leverage that just don't benefit me as a composer plus I have my own website where I have all the content I want so having to manage similar content on Reverbnation wasn't of value to me.

I have signed up for soundcloud pro unlimited (I have 135 tracks) but have three major issues:

1. Tracks are shown only in chronological order - I would prefer other ordering options. For example, on icompositions, they were orders by number of plays in descending order. Soundcloud would answer to create a 'playlist' to do the ordering (see also my issue #2). But playlists can only be manually ordered, for example.

2. I can add tracks to a new playlist but can't add tracks to a previously created one. This can waste time since every time I want to add a track I need to delete the playlist and recreate it.

3. I can't get onto their support group to ask questions I get the screen "502 Bad Gateway" (I tried two different browsers - same result). So I have now twice submitted a ticket to soundcloud with no response.

Anyone have some of the above problems/issues? During the next two or three weeks (I get 30 days to get my money back), I may end up bailing on soundcloud and go somewhere else.

Hey Joel, concerning adding to existing playlists, that is definitely possible. Here's what you do:

1. Find the track you want to add to the playlist

2. Click More (the ellipsis)

3. Click "Add to playlist"

4. You are then presented with a dialog where you can either select from existing playlists or you can create a new playlist.

You are right that there are no ordering options.

There is something screwy going on - some sort of long lag. It took an hour or two for the new playlist to show up as a choice after I added it . I am guessing I will see it in an hour or so. This lag is quite frustrating.

I found this recent thread where some people were talking about the same issue. Maybe use Chrome?

Hi Joel, I'd like to throw this out there for you too. I joined and I'm really happy with their service. It's called ReelCrafter. That being said Soundcloud is always good too! just wanted to give you another option.
